I purchased this camcorder last year, and I am still amazed by the quality and crispness of the video and photos. It is the best camcorder so far in low light - perfect for zooming in and capturing those special moments at school presentations.
unbelievably happy with this HD camcorder

i've always wanted a high quality camcorder that can take amazing pics all in one. cameras with video capability lack video quality. every other camcorder i've gotten takes horrible photos. not anymore. the HDR-CX500V is everything i've always wanted. it takes better pics than my dedicated canon compact and has a flash which a lot of camcorders lack for stills. the daytime video recording is the best on the market--true, crisp HD video. as others have said the low-light capability of this video is the best i've seen. we take this baby everywhere we go and we've beaten it up good. i've dropped it on beaches and forests, deep sixed it in a foot of snow and it works like new. the menus and options have a bit of a learning curve but once you get used to it it's easy to work with. i also love that you can switch back and forth between recording to the hard drive or to a memory card. makes everything easy. overall, this is the best camcorder i've ever owned, and when it dies or gets too old, i'm sticking with this same line of sony product.
Perfect Choice

I had a video camera which was about 5 year old. I was in the market for a camera which would record in a digital format - it bacame a pain to purchase a store tapes, etc. I first saw this camera in Best Buy and was quickly engaged by the promotional video. However I was skeptical as I thought since it was a marketing piece. The more I researched the camera the more I felt it was the right camera for our family. We got the camera less than a week before leaving for Disney World. The videos which I shot at Disney were excellent - both in daylight and in darkness. I definitely recommend this camera for top quality and ease of use. The most difficult task was learning how to move videos from the camera to the pc or a DVA but once I realized the required steps it is actually pretty simple.

This camcorder is amazing for it's size and the picture quality is great. It has a wide variety of options you may want. One option my kids really like is the "highlights" feature which takes clips of movies you've taken and set it to music. The zoom is good, I wish it was more powerful, but all the same very good. I was about 25 feet away from my son who was sitting in a chair. When I zoomed in on him I could count the hairs on his head. I haven't transferred any video to a tv screen or burned footage to a dvd yet, but I've only had it a day and a half. The expected arrival day and the actual delivery date were 1 day earlier than stated even after having a software glitch on Amazon's charging of my credit card that I found out by email the following day. So far I'm very satisfied and if you are considering this camera, I seriously doubt you'll be let down.
